Love the Darth Vader analogy.
LOL
Hi sorry me again, i work in quarry very has conditions. it will Mk3 be ok for? Many thanks. I want to were it all day every day.
Yes it will. I have dove the Garmins from 29F > 98F :)
@@TeachMeToDive thank you very much
I love your spreadsheet! I always have to do the math manually. Would you be willing to email me a copy? I would be happy to Venmo you some money, I’m sure it was a lot of work to make.
Sure thing! Send me an email and I will send it right along.
you just have to push the heck out of our channel and help us grow :)
@@TeachMeToDive I sent an email to your outlook address! You do amazing work, and more than earned a "like" and new subscriber :) Plan your dive and dive your plan. - Chris
can they be set so they dont go dim or are they readable even when dim?
I haven't found the always on setting, but I will look into it
I had the whole series and the mk3i is really the best, the company is always attentive to the needs of the community, I'm already waiting for the mk4i, thank you Garmin🙏🏼
Couldn't agree more!
Hi what do you think of g1? many thanks
for a daily, hiking and sporting watch, it is darn near bullet proof. For a dive computer, it is difficult to read and use. It is very small and mono-colored LCD screen. I would never use it as a primary, or rely on it to be a secondary.
@TeachMeToDive Thank you very much. I appreciate
First lol 😆 can't wait to see how this turns out mate . Absolutely loved our chat and am free whenever you need me next .
Deal!
spending more time with the person learning more about there gear fitment weighting how there mask fits all out of the water before. that way there are less thing to be adaptive in the water
Clear communication is HUGE
So one thing that we could have improved on is weighting, then whenever you take someones mask off remove the mask strap first then their mask
You are very correct! Taking the time to make sure that you prepared, as well as have the needed supplies close at hand is a fantastic start!
Hi, regarding 10:05 about GF and SurfGF. I found the information in manual that if you go into complications display by holding MODE during the dive then you can cycle information in the bottom right corner and you can view Main GF, GF now/GFsurf, O2, CNS, PP02, TOD, Batt, Batt Transmitter and RMV :) @teachmetodive
Great Info, Thank you.
I have a Mares Sirius but I don't know how to set it up. I need to take a dive computer course 😂
Many SSI shops, that sell the Mares products, offer the "Computer Diving" Certification that can help you a lot :_)
Love this yet again! Few additional things to think of. • if they have equipment- wheelchair, prosthetic, walking aid. Where can this go before, during and after? A wheelchair or prosthetics can cost £3-7000 or more! Are you going to just leave that on the beach? Can that even go on a beach or boat ? Can it get wet? • carer/carer's how involved are they? Where do they go during the dive? Is it safer for them to dive with the adaptive diver as they will know the signs? Or is it safer for them to join but as an added diver so the pressure is of them? Or have they been up 5-6-7 times that night sorting our the adaptive divers needs? Is it safer for them to join another group? Is it safe for them to dive at all ? Are they even a diver?. • Access- is the site safe , accessible and have the facilities for all divers not just adaptive? • if they have no leg - which side needs weighting? (You'll be surprised) • blind - not just have a full face mask with coms but make sure you know their tactile hand signals. • Quadriplegic- may have full face mask with comms but if they can't bailout the mask must be fitted with a quick disconnect and you must have a quick disconnect on your octo or extra on your first stage . Just a few things lol i have a thousand more . Again free whenever you need me !
AMAZING!!!
At 42:48, I believe the teacher meant to refer to "Richard Lawrence Pyle," not Robert Michael Pyle.
You are right, Robert Pyle was meant to be expressed as Richard. :) Thank you for the correction
Absolutely love this ! I am both humbled and honoured to be apart of your presentation ben . Just to put this out there - I am available, willing and wanting to help any adaptive diving program at no cost ! In BSAC we don't get paid! We just love our sport, so I will take that mindset forward to ssi! You pay to get me where I need to go and I'll do the rest for free. More mic's was needed or maybe better use of the spare mic . But all in all the presentation and a few one liners was just awesome! Even had a tear at one point mate . Big love from me and remember JUST ASK, be safe, break those barriers and have a great time doing it!
Dan, you are a superstar, and we will be talking A LOT MORE!!!
Awesome I cant wait
That looks like the back of Ben's head 😂
There are two Ben's in this one :) lol
@@TeachMeToDive yeah, sorry. I was referring to Ben the plumber.😁
Could you provide the source of the information given from 5:26 to 5:38 please? Ive not learned of this before and would like to know where it comes from
This comes straight for the Perdix Manual. :) A good practice for GF 99 is to keep it at 1/2 or less of your GF low.
@TeachMeToDive I've just been though the manual for my perdix 1 and that info is not contained within. Has the manual been updated maybe? Could you give me the page number? Thank you
@@petercaron3799 Email me directly and we can chat :)
@TeachMeToDive thanks will do. I'm also wondering why you would aim a GF99 of half the GF low... Will drop you an email :)
@@petercaron3799 Great question. GF99 is a measurement of how fast the nitrogen is leaving your tissues and entering the veins Another way to look at this is it is a measurement of the size of the bubbles. :) The larger the number, the larger the bubbles and the faster they are entering your system from the tissue compartments. Keeping this number lower means smaller and less bubbles. A larger number means more and larger. Using a guiding factor like the measure of half of your GF low allows you to keep a low target for your GF99. Keeping these bubbles as small and manageable as possible should be your goal. So, I like to use the visualization, when teaching, that the GF99 is a numeric value of the bubble size. if your GF99 is half of your GF low (IE 50 meaning you keep your GF low at 25 or less) your bubbles will only be reaching 25% of m-value. It isn''t really the big picture, but it gives a clearer visualization of what is potentially happening, and increases safety as well as reduces symptoms after a dive.
I have an instinct 2x solar and love it will garmin make a G1x solar?
Garmin is really good at keeping secrets for sure :)

LOL
Best TIP is don't enter on BIG CAVES
At least without proper training and proper teamwork!
does the 51 mk3i have more feature then the 43 mk3i? Or just a smaller screen?
The 51 mm has an LED flashlight and the 43 mm doesn't. This is the only difference that I can see, other than the color of the watch itself :) I am a little jealous of my wife's color to be honest :)
Thank you so much for uploading these regularly Mr Hadfield. You are an EXCELLENT instructor! I’m a physician and have been diving for over 15 years and your explanation is spot on and see easily understandable for students of all backgrounds. Thanks again!
Wow!! That’s high praise! It’s exciting to see people like you comment like this and follow our RUclips videos :) Thank you so much. Make sure to stay tuned, we have some exciting videos coming up within the Adaptive diving community as well
Your empty cylinder isn't empty, it has one ata of air , unless it was vacuumed out, still love listening to you
Well, lol. yes and the empty glass isn't empty either. BUT, at altitude it wouldn't be 1 ATA either lol :) Thank you for watching. I appreciate you :)
I can't wait , love these Benjamin
Well stay tuned, we have two more of these and a couple of GREAT interviews coming.
Just watched night 1 in one sitting, thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge Benjamin, your making better understanding divers out there , safer divers !!!
1) steel and aluminum 2) [PADI] 18m open water 30m advanced open water 40m deep cert 66m MOD of air 3) nitrox 32 and 36 4) weirdly phrased, I think you mean 33.333... 5) where isn't there diving? :P
33 FSW is the commonly accepted answer :) but it all depends on what math you are using. For example if you are counting on the ATA in meters, 10 meters is 32.8084 feet. But neither are correct. with actual ATA in Sea water coming closer to 10.1 meters or 33.13 feet (sea water). This also has a variance based on salenity as well. The ocean salenity isn't constant either and creates a variance as well. So to be most consistent, rounding to either 33 Feet or 10 meters creates the most general accuracy :) but neither is exact, and neither actually match the other. lol
Send some swag my way! MK3i user. Started with the MK2i and when saw the new features had to upgrade. It’s a great dive computer. And beautiful watch. I get compliments on it all the time. One aspect that was not mentioned is the Dive app. Leagues ahead of any other dive app out there.
you are right for sure. The ap is great, it still has a few things that they are working on adding that will be really nice, and that are available in competitors, but it is great for sure! Make sure to watch this one too: ruclips.net/video/tYmcmvracjw/видео.html
Swag me up! Id like to see a sidemount mode and/or a way to tell the computer that youre not breathing on a transmitter. The sac/rmv values are pretty trash on anything but a single tank single transmitter dive.
You might have missed this one... ruclips.net/video/tYmcmvracjw/видео.html this video shows the Garmin Mk3i on a SM dive. This will show you 1. both left and right tanks at the same time. 2. when you program in the pods, you can choose to have the calculate your sac from that pod or not calculate. You can also program the tank info IE tank size and capacity that the pod is on. 3. The Mk3i can use 8 pods at the same time, IE for multiple deco/bottom/travel gases and can use the data from any or all of them to calculate SAC or RMV :)
My mk2i has a few scratches on the screen. I got them at the start oh a dive when doning aluminum stage and deco cylinders. My mk3i hasnt had that happen.
We can tell you this, if you try hard enough, you will certainly get scratches. lol I just got one on my Mk3i from coming in over rocks during a very heavy tide. lol :)

Very interesting!
His is very detailed and worth having and reading for sure.
14:02 Love the crawfish 😂 I for one agree with his choice, just bought the Perdix 2 + Swift transmitter.
Great computer for sure!
Great interview and video, thank you so much! I was curious listening to Richie speak about human remains…is there a reason why human remains were so prevalent and preserved in this U-Boat whereas the sea had already reclaimed them in wrecks that occurred later on such as the Andrea Doria?
Good question! The nature of the wreck and the depth/temp help preserve a lot more of the sailers. This was much more of a penetration wreck and the areas that contained remains were protected more .
@@TeachMeToDive I appreciate the reply, thank you!
Hi Benjamin! These videos are great, thank you for posting them! Trying not to be greedy but…is there any way we can get a copy of your cool spreadsheets?
At this point, we tend to only share class resources with students that take the actual class. The other challenge is that we are in a major rewrite of them as well :)
Awesome mate you managed to make me seem almost human lol 😆
you are awesome Dan
With that price and it can't make phone calls? Why not just get the Apple Watch Ultra 2 that can make calls and dive. It's also cheaper.
There is a great deal of difference in these watches for sure. The Garmin is a hands down leader when it comes to biometric data as well as durability. The amount of true dive data as well is quite remarkable. It also is able to air integrate with 8 pods and has the ability for you to monitor your buddies gas(es). Plus send messages as well during a diver to other divers. Finally, my favorite. It doesn't require a subscription to be able to use the dive function and won't stop working if you don't have the morning update from Apple. :) Just a few thoughts :)
If that's your priority, then yep. Good decision. I don't care about making phone calls on my watch at all. Makes me look foolish talking on my watch. Apple is the only company that's allowed to do phone call/messaging integration with iPhones. As a result, no watch but an Apple watch will do phone calls with iPhones.
Comparing apples and a real watch. Kinda weird.
Fantastic videos always a pleasure watching
Thanks again!
Did you ever post the answers ?

I own this computer. Love the big numbers, easy to use. Only complaint is it takes way too long to see how much gas you have before the dive. It automatically turns on and shows you the gas once you are below surface but that could be too late if your tank is not full.
LOL, that is a challenge across most computers. I would suggest getting a tank pressure gage that you can check your tanks prior to diving :)
One question sir, mk3i have No Fly Time countdown?
Yes they do. it is something that shows up on different faces. If it isn't on the face you are using, flip through to a different one :)
@@TeachMeToDive nice.. thank you sir!
I know a dude that the bracelet separate from the watch during dive, maybe when taking gear out in water. Any tip on how to have redundancy on keeping the watch on your arm?
interesting question. The first consideration is to wear a redundant computer first. Even, just adding a manual SPG is better than nothing. Next, a good inspection of the gear you are wearing prior to diving can help for sure. I also see divers crank their computers down, really tightly. All this really does is add additional wear and tear to the rubber straps. Another solution for many computers is to continuous bungee instead of a strap (if that is an option for the computer). This is very durable for sure.
I am just starting my diving process and I am watching videos of reviews and found this and your review video of the watch and appreciate the conversation and information. Great stuff, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Why the diving interface in my MK3i is difference with your. MK3i look similar with Mk2
the general screens are customizable and since I had already customized my Mk3, many of those settings transferred to my Mk3
@@TeachMeToDive Actually I knew what it is. I set the Dive Display wit big number then It changed the interface
Thanks for the interview! I am product consultant in the tech industry and this is a blend of my two favorite things! Oh man I wish on was on their product development team haha! Im just starting my journey into the Tech diving seen and soon as I land my next Tech (software) contract the MK3i is very high on my list! #swag ;)
Glad you enjoyed it!
You suggest keeping GF99 at 50% of preset GF low, however, Andy Davis suggests keeping GF99 between 1/3 and 1/2 of your preset GF high. Are you just erring on the more conservative side or do you have another reason for that suggestion?
Neither way is certainly wrong. The GF99 is a measure of how high your supersaturation is past the total m-value. By keeping that a little lower, you are not allowing bubble growth to become quite as large during the ascent phase and creating less tissue stress. Both concepts will get you where you would like to be, but with a little more care and conservatism, you will feel better after the dive and add just a little more safety. Remember, the GF99 is also sort of a gauge idea of how large the bubbles will be as you ascend :) Smaller bubble good, bigger bubbles bad lol
truly interesting, thank you Dr Kajiura!
he is amazing for sure
Absolutely
Thank you watching
Great interview Ben and I keep watching your Professional Growth. I am coming up on 4000 issued certs and what I have always told my instructors teaching OWD is when you sign off on them you are saying you are confident they can go to somewhere like Bonaire, get a truck and dive around the island without a DM - will they be able to do that safely based upon your evaluation of their skills that you taught them. It's quality of training no matter how long it takes. And with over 6000 logged dives I work on buoyancy all the time as the conditions of each dive can be different, new equipment, new exposure protection, affects of altitude and many other factors.
I like to think of it this way. When I send an instructor to an eval. The evaluator is evaluating ME, NOT my student :)
One massive issue I have with the Garmin Descent series is the disclaimer that it “may not provide accurate information during your dive”. I’m an Instructor, I also run a dive shop and no other computer has that disclaimer.
Garmin is, by far, the largest company that makes computers and biometrics for sure. It isn't super surprising. I always dive two computers and it has been very consistent throughout for dives simple through tech
Would you recommend the 43mm or 51mm as a 24/7 everyday smartwatch? My wrist is around 18cm.
As a daily I wear the 51 and love the size during a dive as well. My wife wears the 43 as a daily, but has a little challenge with seeing 2 tanks on the display. For one tank it is great
